Kane County's best burger two years running. Nick Kindelsperger surrendered to it. The Wagyu Smash brings the flat-top technique to locally sourced wagyu beef, steps from the Geneva Metra stop.

The Burger Local opened in downtown Geneva around 2015, just a block from the Metra station - a neighborhood burger joint with an ambitious local-sourcing program (73-27 brisket wagyu from DeKalb, IL) and a menu built around creative, chef-driven builds. Chef Eric Olson's kitchen has been turning out elevated burgers for a decade, earning a loyal Fox Valley following and a Best Burger in Kane County designation. Nick Kindelsperger of the Chicago Tribune, writing for Naperville Magazine's regional burger survey, visited and admitted that even with his preference for thinner patties, The Burger Local 'was so juicy and meaty that I had to surrender to its power.'
The Wagyu Smash ($16) brings the smash technique to a 4oz wagyu patty - wide-smashed for a crispy-edged sear, stacked with American cheese, pickles, dill aioli, bacon, and egg on a pretzel bun. For double-patty devotees, The Classic Melt ($19) layers two smashed wagyu patties with Swiss and American cheese, caramelized onions, and special sauce on marbled rye - a classic diner melt reinterpreted with smash technique. Happy hour Mon-Thu (2-5pm) drops the smash burger to $10 with fries.
The Burger Local is a downtown Geneva gastropub rather than a burger-only counter. The Smash Score reflects the Wagyu Smash and Classic Melt specifically, while some source coverage discusses the larger Local Burger and the full restaurant experience.
