Dan & Day's Burgers & Shakes opened in 2024 in Upper Montclair as the evolution of Stuffed Grassfed Burgers - same owner couple (Dan and Day), same commitment to quality beef, new address and expanded menu. The rebrand added wagyu smash burgers and sandwiches from the beloved late Watchung Deli, pairing the original grass-fed ethos with the high-sear smash technique. NJ.com ranked them #15 of 51 best burgers in New Jersey just two years in.
The beef is 100% grass-fed, grass-finished, hormone-free, and pasture-raised - a differentiated sourcing story that shows up in flavor. The Wagyu Smash adds another tier: premium wagyu beef smashed hard on the griddle for maximum crust and fat render. The Bacon Jam Burger, NJ.com's pick, layers sweet-smoky in-house bacon jam over a grass-fed patty in a way that rewards repeat visits. Even the buns are sourced locally.
But you still can't go wrong with the bacon jam burger, which takes the concept of a bacon cheeseburger and makes it even better with a sweet, smokey bacon jam topping.
One of my favorite burger spots in the area! They still offer the Bacon Jam from their old establishment on their Bacon Jam burger.
The Wagyu Smash burger quickly became my favorite.

The burger was not hot, just warm. Burger didn't even have great flavor.
