Oh Boy opened in 2023 in Williamsburg's former Beck and Call space at 84 Havemeyer Street - a daytime cafe rooted in music, community, and a proprietary brisket/short-rib smash burger that quickly earned a viral reputation. The team draws inspiration from blues, jazz, and hip hop ('discipline and improvisation, tradition and innovation'), programming each visit with curated music alongside their smashburgers, McGriddy sandwiches, and natural wine. By May 2024 the Oh Boy brand expanded to Oh Boy Supply & Record Cafe, carrying the burger to a second Brooklyn location.
The Oh Boy Burger's edge is the meat blend: a proprietary brisket/short-rib mix that delivers extra fat and juiciness when smashed thin against the griddle. The crust that forms is craggy and substantial, enough to stand up to the Oh Boy sauce - a slightly spicy, zesty house sauce that Brooklyn Magazine called 'stellar.' Thin-cut housemade pickles and griddled translucent onions complete a build that The Infatuation rated 7.8/10 and Mike Eats NYC placed in their Tier 1 (Exceptional). Best paired with a coffee before noon.
Note: Oh Boy is a daytime cafe, not a dinner-service burger bar. The Smash Score reflects the quality of the Oh Boy Burger specifically, with review volume shaped by the cafe's 4pm closing time and narrower service window.
Shovel a smashburger or a McGriddy into your mouth at this cafe in the former Beck and Call space, where Earth, Wind & Fire songs wash over your rough edges.
Team BKMAG's absolute favorite on the day - a thick and juicy beef patty made with a proprietary short rib and chuck blend, topped with housemade pickles, melted American, and some stellar, slightly spicy house sauce. Just a perfect daytime cheeseburger.
Smashed super thin with just the right amount of onions providing a nice crispy crunch and a hint of sweetness, with thin and abundant pickles adding snap and acidity - the Oh Boy sauce provides zesty flavor and subtle heat.
Brooklyn's Oh Boy team launches a record cafe and natural wine program - featuring the viral Oh Boy burger alongside Peruvian-inspired plates.
The burger was one of the best smash burgers I have ever had - the service was wonderful and the place was wonderful.
Though the smashed burger is OK, the place is filthy - absolutely infested with rats running among the tables.
