West Allis's neighborhood smash destination, using fresh-ground beef from the butcher next door. Milwaukee food critics have called it 'sheer perfection' — and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel put it on their Best Bites list.

Archie's Flat Top opened on August 18, 2023 at 6922 W. Becher Street in West Allis, occupying the former space of Randy's Neighbors Inn, a beloved neighborhood bar. The concept is the brainchild of Mark Lutz — a West Allis food entrepreneur who also owns Becher Meats and the West Allis Cheese & Sausage Shoppe next door — and co-operator Miles Patzer. Named after Lutz's daughter's sheepadoodle, Archie's is built on a single obsession: great beef, properly smashed, at an honest price. Scratch Ice Cream operates a counter within the same space, making it West Allis's most natural two-course meal.
The Archie starts with beef ground fresh daily at Becher Meats, the butcher shop directly adjacent to the restaurant — a proprietary blend with a fat ratio specifically calibrated for crust formation on the flat top. It never sees a freezer. Two patties get pressed hard on the griddle, developing the lacy caramelized edges that separate a real smash from an impostor. American cheese melts over the exposed crust, and the signature PBR-braised onions — fresh onions sautéed in Pabst Blue Ribbon — add a depth and sweetness that most smashburger builds skip entirely. OnMilwaukee's Burger Trail called the result 'a sight to behold.' Shepherd Express called it 'sheer perfection.'
Sheer perfection! You must get the onion rings on the side — they are some of the best ones I've ever had, if not the best ones.
If you're looking for a hefty two-napkin smash burger, Archie's Flat Top is definitely the place to go. The burger has crispy craggy edges which are the tell-tale sign that someone in the kitchen is cooking hard and fast.
This is the best burger in Milwaukee. Honestly, it may be the best burger I've found anywhere.
Every day you get fresh burger meat — we grind that fresh every single day. It never sees a freezer.
The burger was one of the best I've had. Finding a unique, tasty burger that doesn't cost an arm and a leg is rare nowadays.
The new restaurant with a classic concept has all the makings of becoming a new West Allis standby.
Best burger I've had in a long time. The Archie Burger 10/10, Onion Rings 10/10.
PLEASE, PLEASE COOK YOUR FRIES! The burgers drew no complaints — but the fries were barely warm and flimsy.
