Houston's most famous burger - the one that won Good Morning America's Best Burger in America title - built with 44 Farms Texas beef and a proprietary Trill Sauce that critics call magic.

Trill Burgers started as a pop-up in the summer of 2021, co-founded by Houston rap legend Bun B (Bernard Freeman), restaurateur Andy Nguyen, and publicist Nick Scurfield. Before they had a single permanent address, they won Good Morning America's 'Best Burger in America' title in July 2022 - beating cities including Miami, Philadelphia, and Atlanta in a live Times Square competition. The permanent Montrose location opened June 7, 2023, in the former James Coney Island space on S Shepherd Drive, instantly drawing lines that stretched into the parking lot.
The OG is built around a specific vision: two 44 Farms Texas beef patties smashed to maximum crispness, American cheese, caramelized onions, crinkle-cut pickles, and a proprietary Trill Sauce (a pinkish spiked mayo) on a Martin's potato roll. The 44 Farms sourcing gives the beef a clear, clean flavor that critics consistently flag. 'Something in there - maybe the angus blend with perfect, crispy edges - feels like magic,' wrote The Infatuation. Bun B himself says everything about the burger was deliberate: smash timing, sauce ratios, pickle count, even whether onions are thin or thick-sliced.

And the burger is excellent. It's a startling contrast of textures, connected with an understanding of the delicate flavors needed to elevate a burger, but nostalgia still shines through.
I definitely liked a lot. First, for its lively play of crispy frizzle against crispy frizzle. Second, for its clear beefy flavor, thanks to the sourcing from regional ranch player 44 Farms.
Although Trill Burgers is a close second, we're crowning Burger Bodega's smashburger as the best in Houston.

The first time I tried Trill Burger I was like ok this is good. But for some reason after that it just got better and better. Today it was amazing. I can actually say that it is one of the best burgers I have had.
Paid nearly $17 for a combo and walked away disappointed. The smashburger was bland and severely lacking toppings... I got a single pickle, barely any sauce, and they charge extra just for onions.
The place itself was clean and parking was easy... The burger came out fresh, hot, and had a really good flavor. I'd give the burger itself an 8.9/10.
