Austin's #4-ranked smashburger per The Infatuation's Power Rankings. Built on fresh-ground brisket trim with crispy, full-coverage sear — the smash program that earned its own restaurant.

Moreno Burger Co. opened in October 2024 at 5608 Menchaca Road in South Austin's Garrison Park neighborhood — not by design, but by demand. When Moreno Barbecue became just as popular for its smash burgers as for its smoked brisket, customers who only wanted a burger had to battle through the full barbecue line. Owner Bo Moreno's solution: open a new dedicated barbecue spot on I-35 and convert the original Menchaca building into a burger-only operation.
Every patty at Moreno Burger Co. is ground fresh from the same brisket and beef shoulder clod trimmings that fuel Moreno Barbecue's smoke program — giving the meat a depth of flavor that standard ground beef can't match. Two ¼-pound patties are smashed hard on the flat top, developing the crispy, lacy edges that The Infatuation called 'one of the best in town.' The tallow rendered from those same trimmings goes into the fryer for the fries, making the whole plate a study in using every part of the beef.
The griddled crust on the smashburger makes it one of the best in town. These double patties are smashed hard and the edges are incredibly crispy.
Moreno's smashburger is a powerhouse. It's a double by default, and the patties have been smashed hard, with crispy, griddled edges to prove it.
If you order it plain and simple, you'll get to enjoy one of the best versions in town.
A freshly opened burger concept born out of necessity — when the burgers at Moreno Barbecue became so popular they needed their own stage, Bo Moreno gave them one.
Moreno Barbecue and Moreno Burger Co. are better than ever — the burgers had earned the spotlight and now they have it.
